Stepping into the basement premises of Bavette on Gråbrødretorv feels almost like entering a Parisian bistro: the atmosphere is informal and cozy, featuring candlelight, closely spaced tables with tablecloths, and Chartreuse on the shelves behind the zinc bar.

At Bavette, the bistro food is generous, yet the bill doesn't reflect Parisian extravagance. On the menu, you will find French classics such as snails, steak tartare, bisque, moules-frites, and rib eye with béarnaise sauce. The signature dish is named after the restaurant; steak frites, prepared using the bavette cut—what we believe is some of the tastiest, juiciest beef available. The steak and fries are served with the house’s special sauce; highly addictive and made from a secret recipe known to only a few chefs, it’s aptly named sauce mystère.

There is no mystery concerning the dessert menu: it’s straightforward, featuring crème brûlée, crêpes Suzette, and other classics. The same applies to the wine list, which is packed with favorites from France’s most beloved wine regions—including a generous selection of Champagne. However, wine, beer, and cocktails are also available in carafes at reasonable prices, making Bavette an ideal choice for a date night out or group gatherings.
